Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Due to growth in our business, we currently have a Permanent full-time opportunity for a Mechanical Fitter to join the growing Mort & Co Fertilisers team.  Under general direction, the Mechanical Fitter will ensure all plant and infrastructure is maintained in excellent working order.

This position also works to ensure operations are completed safely, accurately, in a timely manner and in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.

This includes:

  • Ensure all company owned and operated plant and equipment is maintained in accordance with agreed standards, to minimise unplanned downtime.
  • Perform evaluations on equipment and complete necessary maintenance to return the equipment to a serviceable state.
  • Exercise responsibility for the quality of their own work including:
    • exercising discretion within the scope of the tasks performed at this level;
    • planning others’ work and solving the work planning problems; 
    • understanding quality control techniques; and
    • inspecting products and/or materials for conformity with established operational standards.
  • Communicate all relevant information regularly to management, staff, internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the effective and efficient operation of feedlot maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records, ensuring timely accessibility and high-quality data input, in line with Mort & Co policy and procedure.
  • Ensure all operations are conducted safely and in accordance with Mort & Co Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), regulatory and compliance requirements, and company policies and procedure

 

ABOUT YOU

To succeed in this position, you will bring the following:
Essential

  • Interest in working within a processing plant and growing a career in fertiliser manufacturing operations.
  • Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade, or equivalent trade qualification
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles that demonstrate experience in effective diagnostic and solutions focused outcomes.
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair/overhaul of heavy vehicles.
  • Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW); Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). 
  • Computerised management maintenance systems.
  • Strong understanding of Workplace Health and Safety in a manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical Fitting and Turning, and Fitting Machining with relevant milling experience, together with grain and materials handling experience is highly desirable.
  • Working at Heights Certification, or the ability to obtain.
